Meet the coaches
GEORGE BEVAN is lead coach for the England Performance Training (EPT), Wycombe squad.
Since graduating from Bath University with a BA (Hons) in Sports Performance and Coach Education in 2006, George has worked with some of the world’s best coaches and players. He’s currently completing an MSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology at Roehampton University and works closely with the sport scientists based at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre to provide a holistic programme that develops well-rounded, resilient athletes.
George has worked for Badminton England as a Performance Centre Advisor, and in 2012 became a L3 coach tutor and now mentors several top coaches from around the region. To develop his expertise George regularly visits Denmark and Asia.
TOM DUDLEY is now best known as the U13 National performance coach, but back in the day was himself quite a player. Winner of three junior national titles, five junior European titles and for two years running the U19 French Open Men’s doubles title, Tom has experience of competition at the highest level. He played in Japan, Indonesia and all over Europe before his promising career was cut short by injury.
Now, with over ten years coaching experience, Tom is one of England's most highly regarded coaches. Level 3 qualified, Tom is part of the new Level 3 development team – implementing the programme to train other Level 3 coaches. When he’s not tutoring for Badminton England, Tom can be found training the U13 national squad – the next generation of England players. Closer to home, he coaches the Dorset County senior team, and trains a number of the top players in the area.
KAT HURRELL represented England as a junior and was part of the World Class Start Programme. A mixed doubles specialist, she ranked No 2 in England at U 17, and achieved top 20 ranking as a senior. From there she chose to continue studying and graduated from Bournemouth University in 2011 with a First Class BSc (Hons) in Sport Psychology and Coaching Sciences.
Kat began coaching 13 years ago and achieved her Level 3 Coaching qualification in 2013. She’s currently Coaching Coordinator and Developing and Emerging Squad Coach at the Westgate Performance Centre in Winchester and Head Coach for the Hampshire Junior County team. She coaches the Westgate School Badminton Team - who are the reigning National Schools Champions - and the Peter Symonds College Team. She has worked with a number of Junior National Champions and medallists and is part of a pool of National Junior coaches, travelling with the U13, U15, U17 and U19 England teams to National camps and International tournaments.
James is the England U15 performance coach and head coach with the University of Derby and the Derbyshire Performance Centre. He is lead badminton coach with Derbyshire Institute of Sport, and works with many young England programme players.
He is an ex-Junior National Champion, junior European medallist and England Senior squad player. James has also travelled with senior England players to top international events such as the French Super series and he works with National senior coaches at Milton Keynes.
OLLIE BACZALA made his name in mixed doubles, ranking No 6 in England in 2015. He's now focussing on Men's Doubles, playing for Team Derby at the NBL. He's also a Level 1 coach, working alongside Tom Dudley in Bournemouth.
PATRICK ADAIR is a Level 2 Coach and is also an accomplished singles player.
